Pillar is made with strong, durable wheat straw plastic. We are doing everything we can to minimise our impact on the world's resources while creating beautiful and sturdy products.

We only use leading standard materials and production partners. All of our materials are non-GMO and BPA-free, and the factories are FDA approved and certified.
Easy to open and use
Pillar has no hinges or complex parts, it's held together with gentle friction.
It's easy to use if you have trouble with complicated parts, and it's designed to work well for those with joint pain.
Good for the planet
Beyond just the materials we use, we offset our carbon emissions in the production and shipping of Pillar.

About Pillar
How is Pillar made?
Pillar is designed in Cambridge by us, refined by our industrial designers in Bristol, and produced with our exceptional production partners in China. They work with international brands such as Disney, Danone and Coca-Cola on sustainable product initiatives.
All of our production partners share our passion for the environment, and helped develop the process we use to enable the use of wheat straw plastic in Pillar.
What is wheat straw plastic?
Wheat straw plastic is produced by taking the leftover stalks of wheat plants after the grain has been harvested.
The straw is cleaned, chopped, and processed to extract cellulose fibers. It’s combined with a small amount of recycled traditional PP plastic to bind the material and to ensure the product is durable.
We’d love to get rid of the PP - we’re working on it!

What is your sustainability policy?
We don’t want our products in a landfill. We’ve minimised all of the breakable parts, maximised the durability, and we use materials that will decompose by 95% over a 10-15 year period.
We back this up with a generous return policy, and encourage donations when someone has purchased the wrong size!
